10 Things I Do and Don’t Want
Based on free-write from January 2021
Already convinced of how crucial consistency is based on experience with my other endeavours, I decided to do daily free writing exercises. I needed more focus than the “Morning Pages” approach provides, so I’d start with a prompt or quote. I decided to use the free writes I’d kept since 2021 as a starting point for self-published pic-less for Medium posts.
I applied to write for the “Weight of Desire” Medium publication a few days ago. “Weight” makes me think of “significance”. It reminds me of things that matter enough, activities that are worth the time, energy, and maybe money that I’ll devote to them. Writing is a desire that has “weight” for me. No matter how many times or for how many years I push it aside, it returns under my radar. It’s my biggest “want” for 2024.
From experience with my other endeavours, I learned how crucial consistency is, so I started to do daily free writing exercises. I needed a narrower focus than the “Morning Pages” method dictates, so I’d use a quotation or single idea as a prompt.
After deciding to post on Medium at least semi-weekly in 2024, I thought the free write sheets I’d kept since 2021 could be a starting point for self-published pic-less for Medium posts.
My first free write in 2021 is “What I Want” and my second is “What I don’t Want.” There were fewer of these. I’ve not made New Year’s resolutions for decades and noticed very little difference…
