Call me lazy or “uninspiring” but my preference is to ditch images altogether. The ones I usually end up using are from Canva where I have a paid subscription or ones that come up in near the top in a search of Unsplash.

The only reason I bother with images at all is because the pubs I submit to require them. The way I see it, if the writing is sufficiently interesting the image is nice but optional. It wastes too much time I could be spending writing or researching.

Images are FAR more trouble than they’re worth these days! Maybe it’s time we train readers to be satisfied with content instead of feeding them eye-candy.
