Perhaps most writers here strike some kind of balance. Self publish a few a month and submit the rest to a publication.

I seriously doubt wheher it matters anymore how you publish your articles. It matters more what you publish. With writer earnings in a sinkhole for who knows how long, short pieces without images are the quickest to write and require the least effort. The next “level up” would be to create an image with a quote on a plain background.

This past month, I’ve only written comments on other writers' articles in “short form” with an image displaying a quote from the article. I plan to write short reflections on quotes from spiritual books and summaries of chess videos, but I haven’t gotten to that yet.

I’ve written longer articles and submitted them to pubs I already write for regularly. My seven favourite ones, in no particular order, are:
