I struggle with a lack of imagination and with my vision impairment, I’m hardly an observant person. So what can I write, if not articles about ideas and opinions rather than events? I’m not very emotional either, so how can I evoke emotion in my reader? I remember little of my childhood or adolescence, so how can I write memoirs?

Iknow myself fairly well, but I don’t know what to write about myself that anyone could benefit from. School was almost 50 years ago, so I don’t remember essays I wrote. I do recall that I was the only one in class who liked writing them. When I first came across the term “personal essay”, I imagined an essay where I share thoughts and opinions instead of about events in my life.
