I was blogging on Wordpress too. I didn't like how my page or posts looked. I didn't have the tech skills to make it look good and had zero interest in acquiring them. I wanted to write, not code. I discovered Medium through researching for my Wordpress articles and joined as a reader.

It took about a week to discover I could write here too. I loved the simplicity of the editor. The common look and feel of all the posts on the site was also appealing. In my first month, I earned one penny and was ecstatic! Someone actually read something I wrote! After a life of feeling invisible and insignificant, that MATTERED.

I've been on the platform for almost three years and my writing stalled to a stop last year. I'm just starting up again. Apart from one month where I earned $20, my usual monthly earnings rarely reached more than $5 and I'm OK with that. I've written almost 1,300 responses and about 145 articles. With that, I've gained just over 580 followers.

It's never been about the money. It's been about having a place to be heard.
