I'm not into social media, so I could care less if my Facebook and Twitter/X account got suspended.

Medium is another story. I've invested a lot of myself into it over the last four years. I have been creating backups every six months. I don't know if I'd quit writing altogether if Medium suspended my account. During COVID, I wrote against the vaccine and I'm still here.

We're powerless over platforms. They can do what they want with us and we have no recourse. Yet they need us more than we need them. If every user deserted Twitter when it became X, where would X be today?

What alternative to platforms do we have? Do we spread our communication over a variety of them instead of focusing only on one or two of them? Gab is a decentralized alternative to Facebook and X. Rumble is an alternative to YouTube.

If I just use my writing as a way to process what I learn and for exploring my ideas, I could just store all my documents on my laptop. If I want others to see it, an email list would be useful as a communication device--not for making money
