I’m not sure what the label is for this type of cognitive bias. It makes complete sense. Since one of God’s attributes is order and we are made in God’s image, it’s natural that we resist the arbitrary and the random. This is especially true when either is potentially harmful.

I suspect this is behind the addictive effect of following news or doomscrolling. I can understand the illusion that knowing enough about something gives us a measure of protection or control. The “magical thinking” might be equally irrational but a lot healthier.
