I'm relatively new to Medium. I'm told it's important to clap, but I have no clue what difference it makes. In 8 months, I've gone from zero to 210 followers. I'm not sure what difference it makes how many followers you have when it comes to earnings on Medium. I don't write in a niche but rather about anything that I find interesting in a way that readers will hopefully also find to be worth reading. I'd say how many that I'm following except I don't know how to find that statistic on Medium yet!

Is 100 a "magic" number of people/pubs to follow on Medium? Or should it be some kind of follower to following ratio that's best, like in Twitter? If I were to "trim" my following list, what should I be looking for in deciding who to keep and who to drop?
