In my chess improvement journey, I've learned about the knowledge-skill gap. As adults, we seek information before we try something. It's much easier, not to mention less risky, to read about something than to actually try the thing. We're afraid to fail, to have a "humbling" experience. I made a LOT of mistakes before I could play a scale on the piano, much less an actual melody.
When I play chess, I expect to lose and learn. I set myself up for that by only playing opponents who are higher-rated. When it comes to writing, I just do it. I use Grammarly and learn from its suggestions. After letting the draft sit for a few hours or a day, I will either submit it or self-publish it. Then I move on to the next one.
Knowing when you've absorbed enough information to "just do it" is far easier with writing than with chess!
