Missed Habits DO Matter But Streaks Are Overrated
Ask yourself WHY you skipped your habit today
Do you track more habits than you can realistically keep track of? There are so many things we believe we NEED to do on any particular day to “meet expectations” without being conscious of where these expectations are coming from. Many of these habits are related to self-care like flossing and going to bed early. Some are creative like practice the piano or write 500 words. Others are about what we believe we should limit or stop doing altogether like doom scrolling or smoking.
We humans have this tendency to take everything to the extreme. And when it comes to habits, I found that majority of my friends, family, readers, and students have an all or nothing mentality. — Darius Foroux in Stop Worrying About Missed Habits
Taking habit tracking to the extreme, here’s Coach Tony’s list of 101 Best Habits to track in 2018. Just imagining tracking any 5 of these feels overwhelming. I’ve tried habit tracking. It just doesn’t work for me. Not only do I have to remember to do the things I’ve decided to track, but I also have to remember whether or not I did them that day or the day before. This of course is assuming I even remember to look at my tracker before bed.
