Medium writers are getting rid of Grammarly Premium. I cancelled my subscription for three reasons.
1st reason — It’s unreliable
I use Grammarly. It does help with spelling and the occasional grammar issue. But it is far from perfect and anyone who accepts all of Grammarly’s suggestions will find themselves with a poorly written article. —Michael in Grammarly is NOT Perfect, It Doesn’t Understand Context.
I realized that Grammarly requires skill to use, and I depended on it more than I should have.
2nd reason — It’s too intrusive
I subscribed to Grammarly for a year, then cancelled it. I found it more intrusive than helpful. I’ll lose the benefits of the paid version in late March 2025, so it will be interesting to see if I miss them.
Authenticity flows from their pen, mirroring the rhythm of their cognitive musings. In this symbiotic relationship between self and script, Grammarly finds its place as a tool, not a crutch. Its suggestions are absorbed judiciously, appreciated for their technical prowess, but never allowed to overshadow the vibrant pulse of the writer’s voice. — Michael Williams in Grammarly is NOT Perfect, It Doesn’t Understand Context.
I’m still trying to find my writer’s voice. Grammarly is definitely not helping me accomplish that.
