This is probably why I prefer formal to informal logic. There is a clarity about formal logic. A syllogism is either entirely valid and sound, or it’s entirely fallacious. Informal logical arguments can be strong or weak, but it’s more a matter of degree. I preferred learning Latin to French. With Latin, there are clear rules and no exceptions (at least from what I remember from 40 years ago). With French, there were more exceptions than rules.

It would seem the majority operate only from the reptilian brain. We can’t blame them. The educational system has failed us. When is the last time logic or critical thinking was part of the high school curriculum? We aren’t taught how to think and our society is paying a steep price.
